boyfriend denies knowing Lane was pregnant

A court in Sydney has heard a former boyfriend of champion waterpolo player Keli Lane had no idea she was pregnant, even though they were involved in a sexual relationship at the time.

Lane, 35, is accused of murdering her two-day-old baby after giving birth to Tegan in 1996 at Auburn Hospital in Sydney’s west.

Her former boyfriend is giving evidence at her trial and denies knowing she was pregnant.

He has told the court he had been in a relationship with Lane since April 1994.

When asked if he knew she was in her third trimester of a pregnancy in early 1994, he said he had no idea.

He said she seemed self-conscious about her weight at the time but gave no indication she was pregnant.

The trial continues.
